Omeka as Publishing Platform<\/h3>\n

As per this upcoming Museums and the Web workshop (http:\/\/mw17.mwconf.org\/proposal\/innovative-applications-and-data-sharing-with-linked-open-data-in-museums-exploring-principles-and-examples\/<\/a>), Omeka apparently supports RDF exporting in some form.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve never used Omeka, but will be using it in one of my courses later this semester. I\u2019m not sure how viable it is for publishing linked data, but it\u2019s worth exploring.<\/p>\n

Realistically, it\u2019s not really within the scope of the fellowship (or my technical abilities) to try to implement a database like I\u2019ve been hung up on.<\/p>\n

A good goal for the project would be to present a few examples of what the Whitney\u2019s linked data could be, and to outline the methodology of how I came up with these model(s).<\/p>\n

As far as a visual\/deliverable, a Gephi network graph is always a good option.<\/p>\n

Additionally, if I\u2019m seeking to narrow down what elements I want to incorporate into the Whitney\u2019s dataset, it might be helpful to talk to someone who works with the museum\u2019s collection files (ie Maggie) or someone in the curatorial department to get a better sense of what the museum\u2019s needs are, and how linked data could assist researchers and museum staff in accessing the information they need.<\/p>\n
