Project Overview for Rest of Semester and Spring<\/h3>\n

I am aiming to have a data model for the Whitney ready and approved by the first week of December.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Once the data model is established, I will query for name authority records for Provenance-related constituents.<\/p>\n

As far as where to find authority files for obscure early 20th century dealers and collectors, as I found researching back in September, VIAF seems to have the most consistent results.<\/p>\n

Worldcat\u2019s experimental Linked Data also has some great relationship content for records related to some of these constituents, though the type of the relationship is not necessarily well-defined: http:\/\/www.worldcat.org\/title\/ferargil-galleries-records-circa-1900-1963\/oclc\/888072546<\/a><\/p>\n

Getting data out of TMS\u2019 free-text Provenance field:<\/p>\n

Can use Python string matching to look for dates.<\/p>\n

Each provenance note in TMS is separated by a semicolon, making it easy to use Python to sort these notes into distinct events.<\/p>\n

The Carnegie Museum just puts their TMS Provenance info into a CIDOC \u201cP3_has_note\u201d field<\/a>, but it seems like they could easily extract more useful info from these.<\/p>\n

I could use either Python or MySQL to create updated JSON-LD URI files. I\u2019m not sure which method is easier at this point, but will have a better sense after doing more work in my Programming for Cultural Heritage\/Database Design classes. MySQL might make sense since SPARQL is SQL-like?<\/p>\n

All of these JSON-LD files can then be combined into an N-Triple file (the format used for Linked Jazz\u2019s data), and put into a triple store on the Whitney\u2019s server (which would solve the PHP redirection issue Joshua was having).<\/p>\n

After everything is online, if there is sufficient time left in the Spring semester, I would use the Whitney\u2019s URIs as the basis of some kind of visualization project to demonstrate how they can be used by the public.<\/p>\n

Specifically, it might be good to connect the Whitney\u2019s linked data with another museum\u2019s, the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery being the obvious example.<\/p>\n

The Smithsonian\u2019s artist URIs (http:\/\/edan.si.edu\/saam\/id\/person-institution\/176<\/a>) could even be linked to in ours.<\/p>\n
